Looking back on music in the 2010s decade, what really stands in hindsight are all of the catchy pop and dance songs that made us all move. Was it because they were the only songs we could all agree on in a decade of a million music channels? Probably :) Every time we pull out any of these happy little songs, heads start to turn around and shoulders start to move as they all share a common lightness in their energy that simply makes us want to smile and dance. One of my favourite aspects of singing these songs is performing them in a style you wouldn't expect. Because they are all so specifically "dancy", hearing a new version of them often makes the song come to life in a way that listeners never thought of before. Like hearing Blank Space by Taylor Swift performed as a jazzy lounge song. Or hearing a reggae version of John Legend's All Of Me. Or perhaps a romantic ballad version of Avicii's Wake Me Up. The fun is in taking these well-known songs with their memorable words and music and turning them into something authentically original to match each event we are playing at.
